Alaska Mountain Guides & our affiliates are seeking enthusiastic and professional applicants for a variety of positions.
Most positions are based in Skagway and Haines.
Our entry level guide and admin positions work primarily with 1/2 day and 1 day adventures. These programs include kayaking, rafting, hiking, climbing & ziplining, and wildlife viewing/naturalist tours. Experienced guides are encouraged to apply for our multi-day, expedition programs. We also operate numerous youth based programs during the summer season, those interested in working specifically with teens are encouraged to note this in their application along with their relevant experience and certifications. This position involves guiding in our day trip kayaking and canoe tour program, which takes guests (primarily from cruise ships) sea kayaking or canoeing during a 4-hour tour in breathtaking environments. Involvement on hiking and vehicle based tours are also a possibility. Candidates need to be safety conscious, flexible, energetic, positive, good communicators, and able work well in a team environment. We are looking for applicants who strive to master sea kayaking and canoeing skills and have current First Aid (WFR or WEMT preferred) and CPR certifications or are willing to get them. We offer comprehensive guide training and wilderness first responder (WFR) courses in-house. Based on performance and experience, other guiding opportunities may become available throughout the summer.

Raft Guide - Haines or Skagway, Alaska - (Seasonal - Summer)
AMG's sister company, Chilkat Guides, offers half day rafting and hiking tours in both Haines and Skagway, Alaska. Guides will help our guests (primarily off cruise ships) experience some of the most scenic glacially fed rivers, incredible wildlife viewing, and captivating cultural history of the area.We offer comprehensive raft guide training and wilderness first responder (WFR) courses in-house. These positions are a great 1st time river guiding experience. We are looking for individuals who are athletic, possess relevant outdoor experience and have current WFR and CPR certifications or are willing to get them. Based on performance and experience, other guiding opportunities may become available throughout the summer.

Rock Climbing / Zip Line Guide - Skagway, Alaska - (Seasonal - Summer)
AMG offers climbing and zip line tours in Skagway, Alaska. Guiding in the program involves introducing guests (primarily off cruise ships) to rock climbing or zip lining during a 3-hour tour. We are looking for individuals who possess climbing or ropes course facilitation experience and have current First Aid (WFR or WEMT preferred) and CPR certifications. We offer comprehensive guide training and wilderness first responder (WFR) courses in-house. Company housing is available. Based on performance and experience, other guiding opportunities may become available throughout the summer.

ATV Guide – Haines, Alaska – (Seasonal - Summer)
AMG offers guided UTV / side by side tours in Haines, AK. This position involves guiding our daily ATV tours. Guides lead guests (primarily off cruise ships) on back-country trails during a 4-hour tour over scenic mountain terrain in Alaska. Candidates need to be safety conscious, energetic, positive, good communicators, and work well in a team environment. We are looking for applicants with a passion for motorsports and the great outdoors. Must have, or be willing to earn, First Aid (WFR or WEMT preferred) and CPR certifications. We offer comprehensive guide training and wilderness first responder (WFR) courses in-house. Guides in this position must also possess, or be willing to acquire, a class B CDL to participate in the bus driving associated with this program, we offer assistance acquiring a CDL license.

Tour Guide / CDL Driver – Haines, Alaska – (Seasonal - Summer)
This position is primarily a public speaking / naturalist role. This position may also support any and all our other excursions in a driving/guiding capacity. We are looking for individuals who have great public speaking skills, tour guiding experience, or public performance experience. Must have current First Aid (WFR or WEMT preferred) and CPR certifications or be willing to earn them. Tour guides must also possess, or be willing to acquire, a class B CDL to participate in the bus driving associated with these programs, we offer assistance acquiring a CDL license.

Haines Summit Bus Tour
Skilled Guide/Instructor – Haines, AK – (Seasonal - Spring/Summer)
The International Wilderness Leadership School (IWLS) and Alaska Mountain Guides (AMG) are looking for a skilled guides and instructors for the summer season in Southeast Alaska. The season will begin in April and conclude in August. Applicant should possess at least three years of experience as an expedition leader and have a valid WFR, WEMT, or equivalent medical certification. Applicants should have a background in one or multiple of the following activities: backpacking, kayaking, mountaineering, backcountry skiing/snowboarding. Guiding opportunities will be based primarily in multi-day expeditions but staff also expected to support daily trips relevant to their expertise (i.e. - mountaineers supporting rock climbing trips in Skagway).
Youth Programs Guide – Haines, AK – (Seasonal - Spring/Summer)
Alaska Mountain Guides (AMG) and Chilkoot High Adventure Base (CHAB) are looking for candidates who are excited to lead teenage youth programming in Southeast Alaska. The primary season in June - August, although additional work opportunities in our guided day trips exist May - September. Applicants should have previous experience working with youth outdoor programs in one or multiple disciplines including; backpacking, kayaking, rafting, mountaineering, and climbing. Applicants should have or be willing to obtain valid Wilderness First Responder (WFR), WEMT/EMT, or equivalent medical certification. In-house medical training and renewal courses are offered at the start of each season April - June. Youth program guides may be called upon to support daily guided trips in kayaking, rafting, climbing, and hiking (within area of experience/certification).
Haines Cruise Program Assistant Operations Manager - Haines, AK / Remote (Year Round - Salaried)
This position reports directly to the Haines Program Manager and helps oversee day trip programming at our Haines location. This position is based in Haines, AK during our Alaska season (March - October) and has flexibility to work remotely during the winter season (October - February). Previous experience in the cruise industry and familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc..) is preferred. This position will also work closely with the Expeditions department to help facilitate client care and sales efforts. Additional details can be found here
Dispatch/Administrative Assistant - Haines, Alaska (Seasonal -- April - September)
This is a critical administration support position. The Dispatch Team is the hub of the organization, accepting and distributing much of the information that flows through our companies each day. Candidates must be smart, energetic and thrive in a fast-paced office environment. Quick-thinking and creative solution-finding are key. Experience with MS Office, Outlook and data entry in databases required. Prior sales/customer service experience preferred. Duties include: radio & telephone dispatch, data entry, schedule writing, guest interaction, support of trip operations out of office, and a variety of other responsibilities to help support sales and daily operations.
Guest Services/Dock Rep – Skagway, Alaska (Seasonal - Summer)
The Guest Service Associates / Dock Reps help facilitate the operation of all our day programs via collecting passengers on the pier, collecting tickets, ensuring guests properly complete waivers, driving transfers, and settlements with cruise line agents. This position requires strong public speaking skills and the ability to organize and transport up to 48 guests at a time. Employees in this position must also possess, or be willing to acquire a class B CDL to support any and all our other excursions in a driving/guiding capacity.
Administrative Assistant/Dock Rep/Driver – Skagway, Alaska (Seasonal - Summer)
This role is primarily an administrative support position and assists with the facilitation of all our Skagway-based day trip programs. Main responsibilities include guide scheduling, cruise ship relations, and guest interaction via phone and face to face contact. This position will also, from time to time, be asked to support other aspects of our operation including but not limited to dock repping, driving guests to their tour location, and driving CDL bus transfers between cruise ship piers. Employees in this position must also possess, or be willing to acquire a class B CDL to support any and all our other excursions in a driving/guiding capacity.
CDL Driver – Haines, Alaska (summer season)
The Haines CDL Driver’s main responsibility is to provide passengers with a safe, enjoyable experience during the transportation portion of their tour. The Haines CDL Driver will drive guests in buses on a series of day-trip cruise-based programs. All of the tours are staffed with a Schpeeler who escorts the guests through the entire tour, narrates during the drives, and is responsible for overall guest experience. Haines CDL Drivers will work closely with each Schpeeler, who will rotate through on a regular basis. Drivers in this position must possess a class B CDL with air brakes and passenger endorsements and be willing to support any and all our excursions in a driving capacity.
Summer internships are paid guiding positions with Alaska Mountain Guides and Chilkat Guides.
