Sea Kayaking with Whales at Point Adolphus
Join our certified sea kayak guides for a truly unique paddling opportunity in one of the best whale watching destinations in North America! Point Adolphus is located across from Glacier Bay National Park and is world-renowned for its high concentrations of Humpback Whales. Nutrient rich water from the Pacific Ocean and unique underwater topography make this the most active whale feeding location in Alaska.
Point Adolphus offers excellent kayaking for beginners and experts alike. Our guides offer instruction tailored specifically for your level of experience. Inexperienced paddlers are quickly at ease in the stable double kayaks, while experienced paddlers will feel at home in these efficient touring crafts. The calm waters and stunning scenery make this trip perfect for first time kayakers and families with children.
The trip begins in Gustavus. Around 8:00AM your guide will pick you up at your lodge and transport you to the Gustavus Dock for the charter board ride to Point Adolphus. This is a 25 minute boat ride with great scenery and options for wildlife watching. Once on shore, your guides will provide basic kayaking instruction and then you will set off to explore the beautiful Alaskan waters. We will continue to paddle and watch for whales until midday at which point we’ll return to shore for a gourmet lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll hit the water and have plenty of time to watch for whales, take photographs, and enjoy the true Alaskan wilderness! The day will culminate with a charter boat ride back to Gustavus arriving around 5:00 PM.
GUSTAVUS: Gustavus is the gateway to Glacier Bay National Park and a great community on the edge of a vast wilderness. Trips begin and end here.
JUNEAU: Juneau is the capital of Alaska and a busy travelers hub during the summer months. Travelers from Juneau can fly over to join this trip. We will provide transport to and from the Gustavus airport.
POINT ADOLPHUS : Point Adolphus is a world-renowned location for viewing whales and other marine life. Our day will be spent kayaking and watching for Orcas, Sea Lions, Eagles, sea birds, and Humpback Whales, hiking the beaches, and exploring the old-growth rainforest of Chichagof Island. Our experienced guides are also happy to pass on advanced paddling technique to those who are interested.

They possess a wealth of experience gained from guiding throughout Alaska and the world. They genuinely enjoy sharing their knowledge. Their skill and positive attitudes help our guests to have the best possible experience during their trip. Your safety and enjoyment are their primary goals.
LENGTH: We meet between 7:30AM and 8:00 AM for transport to the dock. We get back to Gustavus around 5:00PM.
WHAT TO BRING: Warm layered clothing, waterproof jacket, water bottle, camera, binoculars, gloves and hat.
INCLUDED: Charter boat transport between Point Adolphus and Gustavus, guide, sea kayaks and related gear, rubber boots and a gourmet lunch.
FROM JUNEAU: Juneau guests will need to pay for air travel between Juneau and Gustavus.
