Alta Lift Access Backcountry Skiing

(1/2 & Full day)

Chest deep in Alta powder. -Adam Clark

Join us for a day of lift access backcountry skiing in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. These mountains offer some of the best snow in the world coupled with fantastic terrain and abundant sunshine. Lift Access Backcountry means we use the Alta chair lifts to gain our altitude and then hike out a short distance to get to the untracked powder that Alta is famous for. Some of these runs take an hour or more and we end up back at the base of mountain for another great run. At lunch we can stop in at any of the slope side restaurants. Guests can use their regular alpine, telemark, or randonaee skis. Climbing skins are not required. Your guide will issue you an avalanche beacon and shovel and instruct you in their use. The trip begins at 9:00 AM at our Alta office, which is located below Alta Sports in the Albion Grill Building. Here you will meet your guide for an orientation and quick talk on avalanche awareness. At 9:15 you will be in line for the first chair. These programs are open to individuals of all abilities. If you have not been backcountry skiing before this is a great place for a first experience!

Our low guest to guide ratios give us the freedom to accommodate individual goals and expectations. Custom trips and private guiding are available. Visit us for a backcountry ski trip you won’t forget!

Highlights

ALTA: Alta Ski Resort is located in the heart of the Wasatch Mountains. These mountains receive over 500 inches of light powder every year. Alta was established as a mining town at the turn of the century and still retains the rustic character from its colorful past. Today Alta boasts some of the finest skiing on the planet, great accommodations, super restaurants and a lively atmosphere. Our climbing courses start and end here.

SALT LAKE CITY: Salt Lake City is easily reached by air.

GETTING TO THE MOUNTAINS: Alta can be reached via airport shuttle or we can arrange to pick you up. The first day of all trips begins with chair lift access to the high country.

THE MOUNTAINS: The Wasatch Mountains offer exceptional climbing opportunities. The clean granite makes for world class rock climbing and the cold nighttime temps and sunny days make for superb ice and snow climbing. With summits over 12,000 feet, the Wasatch Mountains offer adventure for all abilities.

OUR GUIDES: Alaska Mountain Guides & Climbing School Inc. instructors and guides are professionals. They are special individuals who have a passion for being in the mountain environment.
