Private Ice Climbing
Join professional mountain guides for the experience of a lifetime, glacier trekking and ice climbing on a pristine wilderness glacier in Alaska. Guests will be given all the equipment and instruction to safely travel around this massive glacier with professional guides.
Our trip starts with a short scenic flight to a remote landing strip on the Lynn Canal. From there a 4-wheel drive bus and canoe ride across a glacier lake brings us to the stunning Davidson Glacier. Here your guide will outfit you in climbing boots, crampons, harness, helmet and ice axe. They will provide expert instruction for the proper use of this equipment and then you will be off to explore the ice. There will be an opportunity for vertical ice climbing for those wishing to push their limits.
This adventure is perfect for families, first time glacier walkers and experienced climbers alike. A tasty smoked salmon lunch will be served on the ice. Don’t forget your camera! No experience is necessary and all climbing equipment is provided.
SKAGWAY: Skagway, Alaska is the starting/finishing place for this trip. Skagway is the northernmost city on the inside passage and famous for its role during the great Alaskan gold rush of 1898.
GETTING TO THE ICE: We depart Skagway and either fly from the airport on a small plane or travel by boat to the Davidson Glacier. This beautifully scenic flight/boat ride will provide views of the upper Lynn Canal including the town of Haines. Upon landing at Glacier Point guests are shuttled by bus to a pristine glacial lake where we board large canoes and make our way to the glacier.
THE MOUNTAINS AND GLACIERS: Haines borders Glacier Bay National Park. The Park and the adjacent 27 million acres, including Wrangell-St Elias National Park, comprise the largest protected wilderness area on the planet. It is an extremely jagged, glaciated, mountain landscape. This terrain is amongst the best in North America for ice climbing and glacier trekking, and the mountaineering and skiing here are truly world class!
